Good Day Everyone!! I hope you all are keeping warm and Cozy in this Cold Cold weather!!! Due to this cold weather my mind started thinking about the arrival of spring with the wonderful birth of new life and plants coming back into bloom and the glorious colors!!! I needed to do something to help me look forward to spring and get through these harsh cold days...So I decided to do a FURNITURE REVIVAL on a coffee table I had and add a spring color to it!!!
Here is the before picture..as you can see it has great bones to it I just love the look of this piece..
I Decided I was going to do the Chalk Paint Method on this piece!! If you have not seen this method it is great for distressing furniture!! You can buy the Annie Sloan Chalk paint..but I am a pretty frugal person so if there is a way to make it yourself I will try it!!(AND IT WORKS GREAT) Here is the step by step on how I *REVIVED* this coffee table by using the DIY CHALK PAINT METHOD...
1.I gathered all supplies and made sure the surface of my piece was clean..
2. I decided on what color I would want to show underneath the main color(COLONIAL AQUA) once I did the distressing..I picked black. Once you decide on your color you need to paint it on edges and anywhere you want the distressed look on you piece..
3. After the Paint is Dry the next step is to add Vaseline to any of the painted edges etc.. the Vaseline helps the removal of the paint in the distressing process!!!
4.After you add the Vaseline to all the distressing areas it's time to mix up the DIY CHALK PAINT!! You will need the following:
1.5 Tbls.Plaster of Paris
2.2 Tbls. Water
3. 2 cups of Paint.
I mixed up the Plaster of Paris and Water in one container and mixed until smooth and thick & added it to the other container with the 2 cups of paint..
5. After you have it all mixed up you are ready to put the first coat of paint on!!! You need to let the first coat dry for 2 hours and then apply second coat. After it is dry then you can take Sandpaper and distressed edges and anywhere else you put the underlying paint/Vaseline.
This is how the edges turn out..
I am just crazy about this method and how it gives it Just the right look!! Here is the finished product that will be taking it's place in our Booth this weekend at SuLaine's Antique Mall!!
Hope you all enjoyed the Before & after & Maybe you will get your hands dirty with some DIY CHALK PAINT!!!!
Blessings,
Alicia & Carol
